NON - CLOGGING SLOTS - The stainless steel wedge shaped wire is applied with the wide surface outside and the tapered surface inside.  Since the opening is narrower at the outside and larger on the inside,  particles passing the outer edges of the opening will enter the filter and NOT CLOG THE OPENING.

STRENGTH - The wire is welded on the rod base at each point of contact.  By a special corrosion resistant process,  the finished element is a ONE PIECE STRUCTURE OF GREAT STRENGTH.

MAXIMUM INLET AREA - The precision controlled wire provides a continuous wedge-shaped slot for the full length of the element.  The slot opening determines the size of the particles being retained.  The continuous wedge-shaped slot is superior to other filter elements which have round holes or square mesh openings that clog easily. The large inlet area with its low pressure drop means high efficiency.

SPECIAL BACKWASHING FEATURE - While filtering,  a deposit of minerals or dirt builds up on the outer surface of the filter.  Thus flow is reduced.  When this happens fluid is "backwashed" or reversed back through the center of the filter under pressure to break up and remove the clogging particles.  Due to the wedge-shaped wire the backwash fluid reaches its highest velocity at the narrowest opening which is the outer surface of the filter where the particles have formed.  Thus the smooth outer surface of the filter lets the particles fall freely away.
